Our research advances the emerging field of macrobehaviour, exploring the role of animal behaviour in shaping biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and resilience in a changing world.
My team seeks to:
To achieve these aims, we combine field ecology, large-scale environmental datasets, computer vision, bioacoustics and machine learning to study behaviour across the world's oceans. By integrating observations collected across broad geographic, temporal and taxonomic scales, we uncover general principles governing animal behaviour, improve our ability to predict ecological responses to environmental change, and generate the evidence needed to support effective conservation and management.

- Understand how animal behaviour scales up to influence the diversity, distribution and functioning of ecosystems.
- Reveal global patterns in animal behaviour and identify the ecological mechanisms and environmental processes that generate them.
- Develop responsible AI-enabled approaches to measure, predict and understand behavioural responses to environmental change.
- Translate behavioural insights into evidence that supports biodiversity conservation and the sustainable management of marine ecosystems.
